Origin Architectural recently completed this internal glass balustrade project in Bristol, Avon. The townhouse was in Clifton with beautiful views over the Avon Gorge.
The customer wanted an internal glass balustrade to provide protection from a fall but they did not want a handrail as he wanted to ensure that he continued to enjoy the views, out onto his back garden. The customer was about the safety of the glass balustrade, wanting to ensure it was secure if leant on.
The balustrade that we supplied was fully tested for an internal balustrade at height. Given that it was an internal glass balustrade, the required line load test that we needed to meet was 0.36Kn.
The channel system that we supplied was fully tested to this line load test without using a handrail and using 12mm glass. The profiles were fixed directly into steel girders. Because the balustrade only needed to be 900mm in height, the height of the glass panels themselves was 884mm (a deduction was made for the distance between the bottom of the glass and the bottom of the profile).
To create this gorgeous frameless glass balustrade the customer purchased and used the following products:
We worked closely with the customer to ensure that the measurements were exact, meaning that when it came to installing the glass balustrade, there were fewer chances of error.
As you can see from the photographs, the glass balustrade looks stunning, and the customer was thrilled with the end result. Working together, the end result was a safe internal barrier, that looks amazing aesthetically as it maintains his views through his doors and out onto his beautiful garden.
He was so delighted with the end result that he recommended us to one of his neighbours who is now going to install a similar balustrade a couple of streets down the road in Clifton, Bristol, watch this space for that one coming to our website soon.
