Whilst completing their home renovation project in Preston, this residential customer approached us with the idea of a glass balustrade for their balcony. Preston is a city in Lancashire, in the North West known for its quirky features such as the longest row of red phone boxes (who knew?)!
It may seem that we constantly go on about regulations and although they might seem boring they are an important part of the work we do at Origin Architectural. It is essential that our glass balustrades and glass balconies comply with regulations and are safe for our customers. A recent requirement for new build properties, extensions and developments is that they are required to include opaque privacy screens. These screens are commonly 1800mm tall and prevent neighbouring areas from being overlooked. They also provide a great sanctuary for the customer to sit out on their balcony and unwind.
In order to meet the regulations, we created a bespoke balustrade for the customer using 10mm of toughed glass and 12 mm of toughened satin obscure glass. In addition to the privacy that was wanted by the customer, they didn’t want to disrupt the amazing view from the balcony. To resolve this issue we fabricated bespoke posts which allowed the seamless transition of our Cesario system into opaque privacy screens left and right of the balcony. The combination of this as shown in the photo gives the customer a beautiful view whilst also privacy from their neighbours.
In addition to the bespoke posts and glass, the customer also purchased 316 Cesario Posts, 316 Stainless Steel 42.4mm Tube, 42.4mm End Cap and Flat Back 12mm Glass Clamps all of which have been used to create this fabulous balustrade system.
