Origin Architectural worked on this Glass Balustrade project located in Bournemouth, Dorset. The customer was looking for some kind of barrier to block any winds disrupting the patio area, and after discussing various styles the customer chose to move forward with a frameless glass balustrade.
There are many benefits to opting for a frameless glass balustrade as a wind barrier! Due to the glass being clear, it provides the perfect area for entertaining guests in the summer. Not only is the lounge clear of wind (so no flying napkins at those BBQs!), it creates an uninterrupted barrier, allowing for conversation to continue across the garden.
In comparison to other systems, a frameless glass channel system offers fewer intermediate gaps in turn allowing less wind to pass through. For this particular job, the length of the balustrade was 3400mm, following the installation of the channel both Origin Architectural and the customer agreed that 3 Panels of 1123mm were suitable for the project, that’s less than 30mm for the wind to pass through!
Being located in Bournemouth, when considering a glass balustrade you must also take into account the proximity of the sea. Standard stainless steel is not suitable for any project with 10-15 miles of the sea as the saltwater in the air can cause stainless steel to rapidly discolour and pit. Our frameless channel system is the perfect solution for this – made from naturally anodised aluminium the channel remains unaffected by saltwater.
