We offer a wide range of base plates and associated base covers to suit any post. Secure and sturdy, you can be clear that we have the base plate (and cover) that will support any type of balustrade post.
In selecting the correct base plate, the starting point is the type of tube that you are going to fit the base plate to. In general terms, the wider the tube, the wider the base plate. For a 42mm post, we would usually recommend a 100mm base plate with a 105mm cover plate. For a 48mm base plate, we would usually recommend having a 120mm base plate with a 125mm cover.
There are exceptions to this however. An example would be which base plate to use when supporting gate posts. We would recommend that the base plate for both the hinge post and the base plate for the latch post should be 120mm. This is despite the fact that the post itself is usually made from 42mm diameter tube. A gate post is likely to exert more pressure on the base plate and therefore requires a wider base plate.
We supply base plates with a spigot which can be secured to the bottom of the post (usually with loctite glue) or you can weld the base plate to the bottom of the post. We can weld base plates to the tube on request or we can glue the base plates with spigot to the post. Our weld on base plates are 120mm in diameter and subsequently require a base cover that is 125mm in diameter.
If your posts are going up or down stairs, we would recommend using our adjustable base plates. These can be adjusted by plus or minus 55 degrees to meet the gradient of the slope. If you are using our adjustable base plates, you should ensure that the post is cut to the correct size before being fitted on to the base plate.
Our base plates and base covers are supplied in either grade 304 (for internal use) or grade 316 (for external use). It is important that you select the correct grade of stainless steel to prevent your base plate or base plate cover from pitting or cording.
