Home to nature reserves and parklands Salford is located in Greater Manchester and is home to about a quarter of a million people. So when one of these residents contacted us to design a glass balustrade for his decking we were thrilled to help.
The customer wanted to install our stainless steel spigot balustrade which is a modern glass balustrade system that commonly uses two spigots per meter of glass. This system provides a sleek and contemporary look that allows for an uninterrupted view as the spigots sit at the base of the balustrade. The spigots can be fitted into concrete or stone or directly into the decking as this customer has done and then the glass panels are placed and clamped into the spigots. The best bit about this design is that there is no drilling needed.
The customer ordered and installed the stainless steel 316 spigots and covers first before confirming the glass size to ensure the measurements for the glass panels were correct. They wanted to use self-cleaning glass which prevents the glass from smearing so the glass we supplied was covered with a RITEC covering on both sides. The best way to describe a RITEC covering is that it is similar to a non-stick frying pan so it is far easier to clean which is great if there are children in the household.
We worked closely with the customer to ensure that the balustrade system complied with building regulations. The finished balustrade is 1.1m in height from the floor/base of the system to the top which is in line with height regulations and the glass used is 10mm thick which complies with glass safety regulations for residential properties.
The customer is delighted with the overall finish of the glass balustrade, as are we!
