Frameless Balustrade in Walthamstow, East London

Origin Architectural recently completed this frameless balustrade installation for a townhouse in Walthamstow, East London.

As the installation was internal, the customer needed the overall balustrade to be 900mm in height to meet building regulations. Part of the balustrade was going down an internal flight of stairs. To get the shape right, we asked the customer to install the channel first and then produce templates from wood. Once the customer had built the templates, he then provided us with drawings from the templates showing the dimensions of the panels. We then manufactured the panels to the exact dimensions of those templates. The shaped panels and the straight panels were delivered to the site within 10 days of panel sizes being confirmed. The shaped panels now fit perfectly on the customer’s staircase.

To save time and money, the customer also asked us to cut the profiles to his exact dimensions. Using our in-house processing saw were able to cut the channel to the exact angles that the customer required. Some of the profiles needed to be cut to dimensions that were not 90 degrees. This was no problem and we cut the channel to 70 degrees (as required by the customer) with a tolerance of no more than 1 degree.

The customer used 12mm glass with a handrail. We agreed with the customer that it was better that he cut the handrail on-site to ensure that they fitted exactly on top of the glass. With the slotted tube handrail, we also supplied a rubber gasket. The gasket was fitted onto the top of the glass first followed by the handrail itself. We also supplied all of the supplementary components that the customer required. This included end caps, wall flanges and 90-degree connectors
